So I missed an important anniversary last weekend.

Last Saturday marked 4 years since Hurricane Katrina trashed the city I call my hometown. No, I wasn’t born there. But I got there as fast as I could. And New Orleans has more to do with making me, me, than any place on earth.

When New Orleans got destroyed, and it did get destroyed, I felt like a piece of me died.

I don’t know of any place on earth that is more vibrant than this town. If you’ve never been to New Orleans you are doing yourself a great disservice. It’s culture, art, and attitude are like nowhere else. And after the flood, when people talked casually about how we shouldn’t rebuild, That made me angry.

Of course we rebuild. Because we have to. New Orleans is a National Treasure.

It’s similar to cutting art from schools. Maybe it makes sense on paper, but in practice you are cutting out what really makes us, us.

New Orleans is being rebuilt. It’s come along way in four years. But more is needed.
